Hello Weasels,
It's that time of year again, Vaticon XV is just around the corner, and we have some great events planned. Could you please replace the link you have to our old website with this one? www.vaticon.net

Sounds cool... Possibly an idea for inclusion in our Thursday night planning in future - if you can book a certain delivery time we could have food booked before we even arrive and get right into gaming small break for grub and then get back into it...

I'm liking this more and more!

I have used them, they are not bad. i have also talked to my local chinese who have the machine, and from what i can gather, the Take-away place has the option to decline an order if it is outside there area, and you are notified that it has being declined.

Its not a bad idea. It is something worth trying.

You can pay COD or prepay with a credit card, not sure how the prepay option goes, as i have yet to use it!

I'm all for what seems like a uniquely communal (I won't say incestuous!) gaming experience here in Ireland.
My point is more that with distances being what they are and with a reasonable spacing between conventions, it's possible for people with the time and money to make almost all cons here in Ireland.
In the UK with a (I'm told) convention or sometimes two virtually every weekend that's just not an option.
I know that there are at least 12 board game conventions in the UK, and almost as many wargaming conventions (with Salute having 5000 attendees!)

Good point Donogh but I think that Tygerkrash's point about the activity of the Irish games community still stands... With such a relatively small population we still see lots of active (and fairly successful) cons in Ireland. As you point out we also see the same people pop up at many of those conventions meaning that some Irish gamers at least are pretty hyper-active...

It would be interesting though to get an international perspective on this and see if we could get some idea if there is the same kind of activity at the more local / regional conventions... There are a few French gamers we know who I may tap up for information.

But the wiki-list is obviously fatally flawed.
Two UK games conventions?
Without real data it's hard to even attempt a hypothesis.
I suspect (here I am attempting a hypothesis) that the larger the country is, the more local the majority of conventions become. Also, as the gaming population gets bigger, conventions become more specialised, so that you have a lot of wargame-only conventions etc.
In Ireland it's not unusual to see the same people con-after-con.

I started posting a character journal for my fantasy rpg campaign at http://giyhonanchronicles.blogspot.com/ along with some world history and maps.
Quite useful given that the campaign started 7 years ago now (with a 10-15 session campaign approx. every year)
Very useful for helping the players remember what's happened in the past

I've run (and am running another) chat based campaign. The original (JCQ Esq.) was a planescape game run with AIM group chat - a window for GM to each PC direct, a group IC window and a group OC window. It worked very well, I was most proud of the bits where they IC chats would just spool out and I could sit and watch the world unfold as they talked.

The chat stuff was supplemented by scanned maps, handouts, what have you and combat was carried out with by everyone accessing a dice rolling site, which would rand.gen dice rolls visible to anyone. It was pretty combat light, mostly puzzles and RP but thats what it was supposed to be.

Bad points - tabbing about through all the windows for the DM is a pain in the ass unless you've got lots of screen real estate (I set up dual header monitors specifically for the campaign) but once you adapt its neat.

Good points; fully pretranscribed - minimal post session processing and I had clean transcripts that I put on the TCD Gamers forum which formed the campaign bible, also beefed up with ficlets and background stuff.

You can prep lots of stuff pregame - descriptions, etc, and be read to just cut and pasted into the chat window which makes it very friendly for a GM with lots of time on their hands.
